Jim Howell

A Move in the RIGHT Direction!

Education:

Jim has earned an Associate in Applied Science Aviation Systems Technology as well as two bachelor degrees. He has a BS in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University and a BS Degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Friends University. He recently earned Green Belt Certification at Wichita Area Technical College. This process improvement training seeks to help existing processes run more efficiently to save time and money.

Work Experience:

Jim currently works at Boeing on the 767 International Tanker Program. He helps design and support temporary instrumentation systems to gather data during aircraft testing. He often participates in experimental flight testing over Wichita. Prior to Boeing, he also performed similar functions at Cessna and Bombardier.

Military Experience:

Jim served for 5 years in the USAF where he worked avionics’ and flight controls on F111 Bombers. He was promoted “Below-the-Zone” and was selected as Airman of the year for his squadron. He also served in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield.

Leadership Experience:

Over the years, Jim has been responsible to lead his instrumentation team during development and certification of new models of various aircraft. He recently led the instrumentation effort to certify and deliver the international tanker for Japan. For 15 years, he has served as a Trustee in his church helping with budgets, building projects, and working toward practical solutions.

Personal:

Jim is 46, married 20 years to his wife, Leah. They are longtime Derby residents. Together, they are raising their five children in Derby. Jim’s hobbies include hunting and target shooting with his sons. Jim also loves all types of aircraft. He likes to attend every air show possible.

Community Involvement:

  • Director in AWANA, a children’s outreach program.
  • Sunday school teacher for about 22 years.
  • Jim actively reaches out to people in the community that are in need by doing home/car repairs and projects.
